Wanna know what REALLY gets under my skin? God damn mary-sues. Or...wait ya know what? Let's call them Bella Swans. Bella Swans are the most annoying pests that need to be shot on contact.

Bella Swans are perfect in every way, without any REALISTIC flaws (Realistic flaws include like being scared easily, honest-to-goodness shy person, and so on.) , can usually win most if not all battles (With or without weapons/powers), have all the guys flocking to her without even trying to go to them or do get in with them the old fashioned way. They're body is also ridiculously beautiful and well build without hardly doing anything. Also Bella Swans aren't limited to any certain species. It applies to all of them. Sometimes they have more than one love interest and have kids with and or marry both. Yes. BOTH. and both love interests in said story are perfectly fine with it.

With some swans, their authors claim that they created them just because they feel the love interest on the line needed/wanted someone when in reality, they're really just think they're hot/sexy/handsome/cheez burgers. This is a very stupid excuse because there are many other characters who although may not be as attractive still do want someone. Like Gillwing, Gulpo, Homsar, Porky Pig, Dr. Eggman, and so on just to name a few. Yet nobody gives two flying fucks about them so what makes your excuse so special or worth using? If you use the excuse "Well I like so and so and it's MY character so I can do what I please" excuse, you've got another thing coming. Have you heard of the term "toonophilia"? Well it means someone who has a sexual and romantic attraction of a human being toward a cartoon or anime character. The vast majority of people who do this either bash others who don't like it or draw hentai of themselves doing such.

The authors usually base the character off of themselves but remove their annoying flaws from it and add powers to make it seem awesome. In other words, said character is pretty much what the author WISHES they could be and has what they WISHED they had. In other words, the author has a low self esteem and can't handle that regardless of their flaws they're okay just the way they are. There are many ways that this can be foretold. One of them being is if you criticize their character or point out that you feel it is a "Swan/Sue" and tell them why you think such and they take it as a personal insult then there you have it.

However if someone or you turns out to have a Bella Swan, don't fret. Just figure out why it seems that way and take care of it. Getting mad or taking it as a personal insult just proves my point right there. Besides at one point or another we've all had a Bella Swan. However we all grew up and so did our characters and in time we got better and thus our characters became more original. So don't hide yourself away in your fantasies and pretend that those who accuse you of such are automatically wrong. Just find out why they think such, then try to sort it out rather than saying "They just don't understand me." Cause that's pure bullshit and denial.

To that end, it is possible to make a character, base it off of yourself and not have it as a swan. How? Well include your flaws, quirks, and so on, without flaws it gets boring/annoying to others and thus makes it a swan. Also when using your character make it so it acts like you and thus reacts to situations as you would if you were in it. If you take it easy on them, then it's a swan. As for powers, this depends upon the species you use. If the species has many powers then include them in but include the flaws of the species along with your own. Like for example: The species can fly yet when their wings are wet, they can't and if you're afraid of heights then include that in regardless of the fact they can fly. So it's more....well...like you.
There you have it. Now then...why did I use the term Bella Swan? Well it's because Bella Swan is a prime example of a mary-sue AND is also based off of Stephenie Meyer and we all know she's a joke to all writers. Yet of course she won't admit to it or look into redoing her stories and improving on her writing.

If you enjoyed this rant then good, if not well then that's tough shit.
